THE PASSENGER
Jack Nicholson, in his commentary (c2006) on the final extended continuous shot denouement of Michelangelo Antonioni's film "The Passenger" (1975)

"[It] wasn't the skill of the shots so much, when he was asked why, why he conceived this, one of the most memorable shots in the movies. . .

Anyway, Michelangelo was asked, you know, why, why did he do all this. And his answer was very simple. He said, 'You know, i just didn't want to film the death scene.'

So beautifully hypnotic -- where are we all going, what are we all doing. This is what interests a true artist of the film, Michelangelo Antonioni, obviously, one of my heroes."
